What motivated you to really learn Creole?
I want to visit my sponsor children again, connect with their families, and on this next trip, work out where I could be useful as a volunteer for a one, two, or three-month stint.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to learn Haitian Creole?
Once you truly commit to it, practice every single day without exception.
What’s been the biggest benefit for you personally since learning to communicate in Creole?
This was and continues to be a very important step, though I don’t know yet what the journey will look like. My February 2016 trip to Haiti was a pivotal point in my life. Though I’m pretty new to the concept of a God-directed life, I believe the hand of bondye is on this. I love to learn, I love those two families in Haiti, and I want to serve in a meaningful way. Haiti is where I envision it happening. It’s in bigger hands than mine, so… n’a we!
